Community Payback in Scarborough is a court-ordered scheme where offenders perform supervised unpaid work to improve local public spaces and facilities.
How the Scheme Works: Unpaid Work: Offenders complete between 40 and 300 hours of physical labour, depending on the severity of their offense. High-Visibility Vests: Workers wear bright orange vests marked "Community Payback" so the public can see restitution being made. Typical Tasks: Projects include removing graffiti, clearing overgrown wasteland, picking up litter, and painting public buildings or community centres. Management: Teams are fully managed and supervised on-site by the Yorkshire and the Humber probation Service. Nominate a Local Project: Public Input: Residents, local councils, and community groups can suggest areas that need cleaning or repairing.
